Edinburgh’s best pizza

Sometimes you get a craving that only a belly full of pizza will satisfy. Whether you’ve got a hankering for a slice of no-nonsense margarita, or you’re after the full works - here’s where you can get your fix. Based on the results of the i-on Food and Drink Reader Awards 2016 in association with Deliveroo, we present to you six of the best pizzerias in the capital.

Judging by the epic portion sizes at Civerinos, their pizzas are the perfect solution to any hunger pangs. Describing themselves as serving up 'Italian food stripped of pretense and cliche', their menu offers good, honest street-food dishes full of fresh flavour. Accompanying monster-sized slices of pizza, there are also plenty of other Italian treats on the menu including their legendary arancini balls - deep-fried cheesy goodness, swathed in a rich and herby tomato ragu.

Civerinos, 5 Hunter Sq, Edinburgh, EH1 1QW, Tel: 0131 220 0851, www.civerinos.com

La Favorita

La Favorita is the place to enjoy delicious wood-fire oven cooked pizzas and authentic, gourmet pastas. Its contemporary surroundings coupled with a warm and welcoming team are a winning combination.

La Favorita, 331-325 Leith Wlk, Edinburgh, EH6 8SA, Tel: 0131 554 2430, www.vittoriagroup.co.uk/lafavorita

Dough’s mission is to bring Italian street food to the Scottish capital so they’re firing up their wood fired ovens and hand-crafting pizzas using locally sourced ingredients. Get one of their ever-changing specials delivered or grab a slice if you’re passing their Rose Street eatery.

Dough, 172 Rose St, Edinburgh, EH2 4BA, Tel: 0131 225 1588, www.dough-pizza.co.uk

Taking pride of place in the listed building that was once home to the Victoria India Rubber Mill, the Origano café and pizzeria retains many original features making it a unique setting to share a pizza with friends. Kick things off with antipasto platter, share a freshly prepared pizza, round things off with a handcrafted dessert, then stick around for a freshly ground coffee.

Origano, 236 Leith Wlk, Edinburgh, EH6 8PD, Tel: 0131 554 6539,

If you’re after delicious Milanese style pizza paired with a fine Italian wine, head to Amarone on the corner of George Street and St Andrew Square for a cool and contemporary dining experience. Better still, get together with friends and book a private dining experience in The Vault, a former safe, and enjoy a cocktail masterclass with one of their talented mixologists.

Amarone, 13 St Andrew Sq, Edinburgh, EH2 2AF, Tel: 0131 523 1171, www.amaronerestaurant.co.uk

WildManWood is the newbie on the Edinburgh pizza scene, making a name for itself with its classy Neapolitan style pizzas. There’s plenty of flavour combinations to choose from, including several vegan options to suit the meat and dairy free lovers.

WildManWood, 27-29 Marshall St, Edinburgh, EH8 9BJ, Tel: 0131 667 7001, www.facebook.com/wildmanwoodpizza
