Christmas shopping in the Grassmarket area
The historical streets of the Old Town’s Greater Grassmarket are the perfect destination for Christmas shopping. Bursting with independent boutiques and speciality stores for foodies, fashion and interiors lovers, you’ll find something for everyone. Then, once you’ve ticked off the shopping list, refuel at any one of the huge variety of bars, cafés and tasty restaurants.
Starting at the top of Victoria Street, why not try Walker Slater (pictured above), the home of Scottish tweed, for a great place to add a touch of luxury to winter dressing for men and women. Carry on from there down the hill and you’ll be tempted in to see the mouth-watering cheese curation on offer at I J Mellis where staff will happily provide samples and advice for gifts.
Next door is Demijohn Liquid Deli (pictured above), full of delicious olive oils, spirits and other produce. Seville orange, damson, gooseberry and chocolate orange liqueurs are just some of the delectable flavours on offer. Then top up energy levels a door further down at Oink, Edinburgh’s best hog roast, the perfect way to treat your taste buds and warm up.
Towards the bottom of the street, known as West Bow, you’ll find Isle of Skye Candle Company (pictured above), perfect for gifting some hygge this Christmas or cross over for something bespoke for a loved one at the Cambridge Satchel Company (pictured below). Classic satchels and bags are available in a whole array of colours and shapes which can then be customised with some embossed lettering and symbols.
For lady gift heaven pop over to Candlemaker Row to visit Hannah Zakari. Here you’ll find a selection of fashion accessories, beautiful jewellery, stationery and prints. Then continue your gifting journey up the street for a fantastic assortment of quirky stores to finish off your list.
All done? Then stop off for a well-earned drink at one of the cosy pubs of the Grassmarket and enjoy the festive atmosphere.
