The one thing you might not expect from a restaurant called Whiski Rooms is that they do fantastic kids food. And a second surprise is that although it’s firmly placed on the tourist trail between the Royal Mile and Princes St, the food is not tourist fare. There is no compromise on quality even though the lunch menus are fixed price and great value.

We enjoyed a family lunch with our usually pasta obsessed child who very happily devoured the excellent, freshly made chicken goujons and fries. Great value at £6.95 for two courses. Meanwhile we had the three course lunch menu for £15 and a bottle of very good pinot noir from a well priced selection. The haggis bonbons (a mini nod to visitors) were beautifully balanced with the whisky sauce and salad. A burger and shoestring fries was not just delicious but huge as well, whilst the perfectly flaky white fish (crumbed not battered) and chips were spot on. Also worth a mention (because who doesn’t love chips?) is the fact that they offer hand cut chips and skinny fries which was good news for me since I developed a fat chip phobia during pregnancy (don’t ask). Dessert was ice creams all round and a very full and happy family left the Whiski Rooms promising to return soon.
