About the i-on Breakthrough Awards

We think we might be onto something here… For years, i-on has got behind some of the best businesses in central belt Scotland. From the launch of the mag back in 2005, we’ve done our best to shout about the people who help to make the cities what they are; the cool little businesses who don’t always garner column inches but who are at the beating heart of urban Scotland.

So, with this in mind, we bring you the inaugural i-on Breakthrough Awards in association with Pickering's Gin, a celebration of emerging talent in Scotland. People living and working in Edinburgh and Glasgow who are excelling in their field; the people who i-on magazine, with its judging panel and readers, anticipate to be the names to talk about in 2018.

The deadline for entries has now passed but look out for the shortlist of entrants to be announced on the i-on website on Friday 02 June 2017 and in the June issue of the magazine. After a voting period, the finalists will meet our judging panel on Thursday 24 August to give a five minute presentation before the category winners, and one overall winner, are chosen.

The prize

Winners will be announced at the i-on Breakthrough Awards winners’ party in Edinburgh on Wednesday 13 September 2017 and will appear in the October issue of the magazine and online.

There will be winners chosen for each category and they will each receive a marketing campaign in i-on, worth £2,000. There will also be one overall winner (from the category winners) who will receive a £15,000 marketing campaign with
i-on to be used in 2018.

A note about the voting process

The integrity of the awards is of paramount importance and i-on strives to ensure a fair and independent system.

All comers were invited to nominate themselves. i-on created a shortlist from the nominees.

i-on readers vote on the shortlist to create a list of finalists. Each of the finalists present to the judging panel who then choose the winners.

Finalists are those nominees who receive the most online votes in their category. All voting is via the i-on website. i-on provides branded material to all nominees for marketing purposes. The use of offers and inducements to encourage people to vote for a particular nominee are strictly prohibited and will lead to disqualification from the awards. No prizes or inducements to vote for a particular nominee have been offered by i-on. All votes are collated automatically then verified by two independent sources. Duplicate emails voting in the same category are removed from the counting process, as are incorrect or non-existent addresses.

If you have any questions relating to the voting process please email jo@ionmagazine.co.uk.

Thank you for your interest in the i-on Breakthrough Awards 2017.
