The best places for Sunday lunch in Edinburgh

8 Mins

The perfect Sunday features a lie-in, a slow read of the papers, maybe a leisurely walk... and most definitely a roast. Here's our round-up of the top Edinburgh places doing roast dinners right

Best for second helpings... One Square

One Square

With everything from a build-your-own salad station  to perfectly cooked meats, the Sunday roast at One Square is a bottomless buffet of delights with endless sides of potato dauphinoise; veg galore; and enormous fluffy Yorkshire puddings -  so good we went back three (yes three!) times. Sunday lunch is served from 12.30-2.30pm, £29 per person.

1 Festival Square, Edinburgh EH3 9SR. For more information visit

For lunch with a view... Twenty Princes Street

Twenty Princes Street

Overlooking Edinburgh's Old Town, the relaxing surrounds of Twenty Princes Street set the scene for a mouth-watering three-course feast that's as concerned with provenance as it is with perfection. Succulent beef from John Gilmour Butchers is accompanied by all the trimmings and an indulgent choice of sides if you so wish. Just make sure to leave enough space for dessert and peruse the extensive wine list.

Available every Sunday from noon with individual roasts priced from £15 per person and roasts to share. To book Tel: 0131 652 7370 or visit

For the perfect cut... Chop House

Sunday Roast at Chop House, East Market Street

With a bespoke cocktail menu and an achingly cool décor of steel, pared-back brick, stylish lighting and plush leather, Chop House has fast become both the place to eat and the place to be seen. Excellent cuts of beef are cooked over an open charcoal grill and served with bone marrow gravy, roasters, honey roast root vegetables, butter greens and a Yorkshire pudding. Everything that a roast should be.

£18.50 per person. To book visit

The family-friendly haunt... The Printing Press Bar & Kitchen

Printing Press Bar and Kitchen

Choose from a choice of meats, as well as a vegetarian option, served with gravy and all the trimmings. Sunday lunch is served from 12 noon - 5pm. £19.95 for two courses, half price for children under 12, under-fours dine free.

The hangover cure... The OX

The OX

Feast on roast beef rib-eye served with roast potatoes, creamed leeks, roast carrot, green beans and buttered kale (£16.50). Accompany with a bloody Mary or Bloody Nora (Bombay Gin, Tomato Juice, Beetroot Juice), available in single or double measures depending on your Saturday night sins.

49–51 London Street, EH3 6LX, Tel: 0131 556 9808,

Best for bubbles and a proper feed... Cucina

In the words of i-on's own Carrie Mitchell, the Sunday roast at Radisson Collection’s award-winning restaurant Cucina is "the best I've had in Edinburgh." Not a compliment given lightly from someone who has done her fair share of research. The Sparkling Brunch is served every Saturday and Sunday from 12.30 until 3pm with a buffet of starters, followed by a roast, then a choice of classic desserts, tea or coffee and did we mention the never-ending glass of prosecco? Yep, this is right up our street.

1 George IV Bridge, Edinburgh EH1 1AD, Tel: 0131 240 1666,

Two more to try...

The Sheep Heid Inn: Why choose one when you could have them all with the trio of roasts? Sirloin of beef, pork and chicken with crackling and stuffing wrapped in bacon. Served with all the trimmings & bottomless gravy.

Kyloe: Crowned the best roast dinner in Scotland in 2016 and 2017, the Kyloe Sunday roast is served from 12.30 until 5pm. Book with three of your friends for the ultimate feed. That's your own joint of borders roast rib of beef carved at the table, Yorkshire puddings, duck fat roasted potatoes, pan gravy, roasted organic root vegetables, creamed cabbage, hot horseradish cream and a British pudding to share. (£100 for four).
