Dinner and cocktails at Tigerlily Edinburgh

Amanda Southey heads to her old favourite, Tigerlily, and samples their newly launched cocktail menu.

Where to go on a Thursday night in Edinburgh for good food? The choice is vast but we decided on an old favourite and myself and my friend headed to Tigerlily on George Street. We were greeted with a warm welcome - they really do have the friendliest staff - and shown to a booth in a cosy corner (my favourite table). Our waiter DT was on hand to tell us the specials and talk us through their newly launched cocktail menu. With such a vast choice, this was going to be tough… I was being sensible on a school night so opted for a small glass of the delicious Cloud Chaser Rose, £11.30, from one of my favourite wine regions, Cotes De Provence. My friend had a Saturn cocktail, £8, which was made up of Eden Mill gin, falernum lemon, passionfruit, orgeat and sugar. It sounded good enough to eat and I immediately had drink envy.

We started with a couple of plates to share; Chicken Satay, £6, which was one of the specials and the Scottish seared scallops with cauliflower puree and crisp Stornoway black pudding £9.50. I was in heaven. The scallops were cooked perfectly and the black pudding (which I can usually take or leave) was delicious. Just the right amount and cooked to crispy perfection. The chicken satay was light and tasty with a great satay sauce.

Onto the main course and I stuck to an old favourite. One of the reasons I love dining at Tigerlily is the steak burger with their own special relish (must find out the recipe). This, as usual, was perfectly cooked just the way I like it with a side of crispy skinny fries, £12.50. My friend had the healthier option and went for the pan fried seabass with root vegetable rosti, samphite and a saffron vanilla butter sauce, £18. I could tell by the empty plate that this was a winner.

We were sad to say we could not manage dessert so instead opted for fresh peppermint tea to soothe our full bellies, just what we needed after a great meal.
