The Wine House 1821: The perfect spot for wine lovers
Located within a Georgian townhouse just a stone’s throw from the Edinburgh Playhouse on Picardy Place, the sophisticated Wine House 1821 is a joint venture between restaurateur Sep Marini (of Tony Macaroni fame) and one of Italy’s most renowned wine houses, Zonin Wines. It’s a great bar to help you discover some delicious new wines and with over 30 available by the glass and 100 by the bottle, you’re spoilt for choice.
Feeling slightly overwhelmed, we let the sommelier take charge and ended up drinking some of the most incredible wines. If you’re not a wine lover, they have cocktails, a good range of spirits and Italian beers. There’s also a great selection of Italian sharing platters, from £7.95, and light bites such as mixed crostini £5.95. I highly recommend the Antipasti Combo Platter –a delicious selection of ham, salamis, cheese and grilled vegetables, £19.95 for two people.
