Paul Dickson finds some pain relief at Rehabilitation Matrix...
It’s not often I make a New Year’s resolution, but for 2018 I made a promise to finally address my back pain.
I’d neglected it for far too long and the discomfort wasn’t going away. In fact, it was getting worse. After one of my many ‘old man’ hobbles around the office, a colleague put me in touch with Rehabilitation Matrix; a company specialising in sports injuries, sports science and rehab.
I couldn't bend backwards very far without discomfort nor was I able to rotate my body anywhere near its full range
My practitioner, Jonny Marc-Gillam comes with a wealth of qualifications and a client base that includes many world leading athletes so I knew I was in good hands.
During the initial appointment, I explained the pain was in my mid back so Jonny set about finding the root cause of the problem.
Using movement screening and clinical techniques, it became apparent that the range of movement in my upper back was restricted, and this was having a negative impact on my mid back. I couldn’t bend backwards very far without discomfort nor was I able to rotate my body anywhere near its full range.
Jonny prescribed a combination of manual therapy, manipulation and exercise to get my upper back working better, which in turn, would relieve my middle back pain.
These different treatments, coupled with attending his weekly fitness class at Walk the Talk Studios, slowly started to relieve the pressure on my back and increase my range of motion.
Five weeks on and my back pain is undoubtedly better and my movement improved. I’ll keep doing the exercises and will be back for an assessment in two months.
Without a doubt, Jonny’s in-depth knowledge and expertise in rehabilitation is the key factor in my improvement. So, if you have aches or pains you can’t get rid of, don’t leave it, you know where to go.
