Victoria Martin's Glasgow

3 Mins

Glasgow girl Victoria Martin is the creator of The Lifestyle Lab, a laidback and stylish venue on Hope Street where she runs styling workshops and clients can hire the space for meetings, workshops, training and events. “The Lifestyle Lab bridges the gap between high-end boutique style venues and lifeless meeting rooms. It’s an affordable spot for companies to take meetings off-site and encourage them to think ‘outside the boardroom’.” Here she tells us about the city she calls home.

What’s your favourite area of Glasgow?
The West End. I still feel like a tourist there but I’m completely at home too.

Where would you take visitors to show them the real Glasgow?
Princes Square. It’s beautiful and it’s the best place to people watch on a Saturday.

What’s your restaurant recommendation?
I’m a huge fan of Hutcheson’s and The Butchershop, so I’m excited to try their latest venture, The Spanish Butcher. (Read i-on’s lunch review on page 93.)

What do you think of the city’s bar scene?
Personally, I’d love more laidback, late night bars like Moskito. So many close at midnight or 1am; I’m not ready to call it a night at that point but I feel about 100 years old in clubs nowadays.

Any favourite places to shop? Glasgow is an amazing place to shop because of the mix of high street and designer. I’m also the stylist and personal shopper for intu Braehead and it’s perfect for a quick retail hit.

What would make the city a stronger attraction?
I’m still not over the disappointment that the plans for Selfridges in The Merchant City didn’t materialise; I’d love to see a high end department store with an amazing rooftop restaurant, like Harvey Nichols in Edinburgh.
