Edinburgh International Festival 2018 Highlights

5 Mins

It’s nearly that time of year again, when the excitement levels in Edinburgh reach fever pitch and the city takes centre stage around the world of art and culture.

To help decide how you’ll spend August, here are some of the highlights of this year’s Edinburgh International Festival. You won’t want to miss them...

Autobiography | 11-13 Aug

Autobiography

Trailblazing choreographer and director Wayne McGregor has an unmistakable visual style that pushes the body to ever greater virtuosity. With body-shaking electronic beats and immersive lighting, Autobiography is mesmerising, multi-layered and mysteriously beautiful. Each performance is unique, creating an experience for dancers and audience alike that’s never again repeated.

La Cenerentola | 24-26 Aug

La Cenerentola dispenses with fairy godmothers and glass slippers, puts its Prince in disguise and transforms the wicked stepmother into a buffoon of a stepfather. Told through some of Rossini’s most sparkling music, this is a Cinderella story that charms and captivates from start to finish–a brilliant spectacle, and one with a big heart.

HOME | 22-26 Aug

HOME

Actor, creator, magician and illusionist Geoff Sobelle cordially invites you to a magical house party on the grandest scale. HOME builds an entire house before your very eyes, and then explores how it turns into a home. With fixtures, fittings, and finally inhabitants (and even maybe a little help from you)! Witty and wise, hearty and hilarious, HOME captures all the drama and emotion of our everyday lives.

Midsummer | 2-26 Aug

Midsummer

It’s midsummer weekend in Edinburgh. It’s raining. Two thirtysomethings are sitting in a New Town bar waiting for something to turn up. Featuring a live band bringing to life its heart-warming songs and irresistible humour, National Theatre of Scotland’s Midsummer is a streetwise romcom that turns a midlife crisis into a dance of freedom, and proves that it’s never too late for any of us to change.

Light on the Shore with Edinburgh Gin Seaside | 9-25 Aug

Light on the Shore with Edinburgh Gin Seaside is a journey through the highways, byways and back lanes of Scottish music. It celebrates Scotland’s musical impact around the world and recognises visitors who have left an indelible mark. Taking place at Leith Theatre, experience seminal Scottish artists such as Mogwai, Anna Meredith, Django Django, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Alan Cumming and many more.
