i-on magazine: October 2017

It’s here! The excitement has been building for months so we’re very happy to finally present our i-on Breakthrough Awards special recognising and rewarding the people and the businesses making waves in Edinburgh and Glasgow. I must confess that when I moved home from London back in January, I expected to find things moving at a much slower pace here; less innovation, less creativity, less things happening; because all the influencers move to London, right? WRONG.

It has been an absolute joy to discover so many game-changers at work right here in Scotland, setting the trends, breaking the mould and paving the way for change in their respective industries. The judges had a seriously hard time whittling down our impressive entrants but after much deliberation, they chose some very deserving winners –turn to page 18 to find out who walked away triumphant. You’ll meet many of them throughout this issue –just look for the BOOM logo on the page to mark out our chosen superheroes who we’ll be supporting throughout 2018.

Another individual who’ll be celebrating this month is reader Donna Hay, who is the lucky winner of last month’s competition to win a handcrafted ANTA rug worth £595. This month’s glamorous giveaway comes courtesy of NY fashion brand Coach who are offering up a designer handbag worth £795. So, if you’re looking for some new season arm candy, or a special gift for the missus, turn to page 14 (or click here) for your chance to win. I’m just gutted I don’t get to throw my own name into the hat.

Saying that, I imagine the only bag I’ll be sporting for the foreseeable is a mammoth changing bag overflowing with nappies and baby paraphernalia. Yup, I’ll be heading off to discover the joys of motherhood as our little girl is due to arrive later this month. I just hope she doesn’t decide to show up on her actual due date, Friday 13th.It might be a great name for a horror movie but it doesn’t sound like the most fortuitous day to be having a baby, does it?
